We are so very sorry to have to share the devastating news that Ryan Barrett has drowned. Our heartfelt love and prayers are extended to Mary Ellen and Dave and all the Barrett family. Words cannot convey the depth of this sadness. We pray that God will grant them strength and peace in this horrible time of loss.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And may perpetual light shine upon him. May the soul of Ryan Barrett and all the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace.

I am the mother of a seven year old Autistic girl, Willow. She runs and has no sense of danger. She has almost been hit and drowned too many times. I don’t think people with “typical” children have any understanding of how hard it is to keep these kids safe. I can’t imagine what this family is going through right now. They are an inspiration to me.

May our Lady of Sorrows envelope her in her loving arms right now.
God bless her.

I am the mom of three, including one wonderful 5-year-old boy with autism. Last September we went camping for the first time, along with family, and we were terribly worried about him. We bought a tracking system for the trip and warned everyone to be ALERT. With three adults and two other children standing near him, he still managed to run into the lake right before our eyes. I also had to call 911 the weekend before Easter because when I came out of the baby’s room after putting her down for her nap, I found the front door open and him gone. The worst 30 minutes of my life until he was found.
The terror I felt for those 30 minutes was incredible. I can only begin to imagine what Ryan’s family has gone through and is enduring now. They and Ryan are in my prayers and thoughts.

As a friend of Mary Ellen’s and mother of a 7 year old with Down syndrome I know how I would feel if this happened to me. Like Tosha, we have had more than our share of close calls with Christina. They just have no fear!
My heart is broken for them. I hope to attend Ryan’s funeral on Wednesday.

I just want to clarify that Ryan did not wander off as some have reported. It is now known that Ryan had a grand mal seizure and slipped into the stream.
Our hearts tears and prayers go out to your beautiful family. We will always remember Ryan at Sunday Mass. What a joy it would be to see this beautiful family at Mass at OLPH. God Bless all of you
