Where I’m from

The contest is over but I keep reading these all over the blog world and I couldn’t resist writing my own.

Michele MarieI am from curling irons, Dippety Do and soft pink rollers. From pixie cuts and plaid pants, roller skates and 45’s.

From banana seat bikes with a flower basket on the front and Tender Love, Barbie and Dawn dolls.

I am from the land rich in history, Amish buggies and rolling hills of patchwork fields.

From forsythia and cow corn and sweet corn, fresh tomatoes, green beans and cherries.

I am from Germans, Brits, Swiss and Cherokee. From stubbornness and craziness, divorce and alcoholism.

From Mommy and Daddy, Mel and Missy, Pop-pop and Mom-mom, Blacks, Shanks and Swarrs.

From skinny as a rail and always being mistaken for a boy.

I am from Anabaptists and Methodists and gratefully, finally, Catholic.

I am from Lancaster County, whoopie pies, soft pretzels, Tastykakes and funnel cakes. From summer carnivals and fireworks, winter sledding and snowball fights. From kickball and kick the can, hide and seek and cops and robbers.

I am from Nancy Hanks, Abraham Lincoln and Hans Herr.

I am from pictures in a drawer and 8 mm films. My dad’s memorabilia and my mom’s memories.

From hard times and good times and always love.

You brought back a lot of memories for me! Sounds like we grew up in similar times and similar places. :) Thanks for sharing your poem!

Oh Dippety Do! Loved that stuff. Absolute necessity for 80s hair that withstood wind, rain and dark of night lol!

The dippity do got me too. My Grandma always bought the pink and my mother always bought the green.
I was a ” skinny as a rail/boy” as well though not anymore :(
