What American accent do you have?
Your Result: Philadelphia Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you’re not from Philadelphia, then you’re from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you’ve ever journeyed to some far off place where people don’t know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn’t have a clue what accent it was they heard.
Hmm. . .really? OK so maybe a little bit.
And now of course I am hungry for a cheesesteak. Thankfully I don’t have to go all the way to Philly to get a good one. . .just across town!

Nov 21, 2006 - 06:11:18Mine was “the Northeast”. I did grow up in NJ so it was accurate for me, although I don’t think I have the typical “Jersey girl” accent.
[Amy, I don't think you sound like a Jersey girl...do I sound like a Philly girl? My dh's relatives are all from Philly and I don't sound like them. Lancaster County accent sure but Philly? -Michele]
Oh and I hope you got a cheesesteak for yourself and enjoyed it! You deserve a treat.
[Not yet . . .but I will!]
The inland north….
Well, I am from southern Illinois originally.
Hope you are doing well Michele.
Mine came out “the west”. I’ve lived in Oregon since I was 5, so it was accurate. Thanks, Michele - that was fun.
I have taught English as a Second Language (to mostly Hispanic immigrants) for 18 years, making me SOO conscious of the dreaded New Yawk accent.
I also live in Britain for 6 months and New Hampshaah for 2 years.
Needless to say, I was thrilled that I didn’t come out as having a New York accent, but of all things, BAHSTAN!
Well, this was fun, but since I’m from South Louisiana, the finding that I’ve got a Philly accent is fairly amusing. .
