Update
Thank you all so very much for your prayers. The funeral was Wednesday and it truly was amazing. Of course there is a sadness at Dad’s passing but there is also so much hope and joy. What made me cry was the beauty of it all. The prayers, the songs (especially the song of farewell - oh I could almost see the holy souls coming to greet him!), the incense, all of it - every blessed thing.
The VFW sent an honor guard squad to the burial and they folded and presented the flag (which had been draped on his casket as Dad was a WWII Navy veteran) to dh’s oldest brother who in turn gave it to Tim because he felt he should have it - after which they played Taps.
At the reception we had all the foods Dad loved. In fact we actually picked up pizza on the way back from the burial! :-D Dad would have loved that!
I am SO grateful to be Catholic and both Tim and I ended the day feeling a sense of peace and joy that we were able to make sure Dad got a Catholic funeral and a beautiful one at that.
My house has been full of visiting relatives and unfortunately they are not all gone yet. No one is staying here right now but they visit frequently and frankly I am a bit people weary (except of course for my own “people” who live here all the time and my special little new “person” who just gets cuter every day! ) Thankfully I can retreat to the bedroom with the excuse of needing to lie down with the baby for a while and no one takes offense.
Overall though I am doing fine and really actually getting plenty of sleep. Maria is a calm and content baby who sometimes sleeps so much I have to wake her up to nurse!
Thank you everyone for your prayers and kindness. The family of God, as evidenced to me so concretely and regularly, is truly a blessing!

Dec 30, 2006 - 12:12:50Continuing to pray, Michele. I am glad you are finding peace in spite of this terrible loss. What a gift our Faith is.
Michele, you’ve been in my mind and in my prayers. What a wonderful thing to have his favorite foods at the reception.
Maria is just beautiful.
Please be assured of our continual prayers for you and your loved ones, Michele…I am glad you are getting sleep. I will pray for a return to your “normal” routine as soon as possible…
Michele,
You sound very peaceful. I’m glad all went well. I love the pizza idea. I’m sure he’s smiling down from heaven.
Blessings,
Heather
Shelley - I was reading your blog and was wondering what “dh” meant. Thanks, Lisa
