It seems like every few weeks or so I get an e-mail from someone whose own child or the child of someone close to them, has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Those e-mails always make my heart sink as I know so well what such a diagnosis means.
It occurred to me today that I should include a Type 1 Diabetes category in my sidebar and so I have. It’s on the right under the other links. It includes links to posts I have written and a link to the Catholic T1 parents online support group I started.
If you are a parent, loved one or friend of a Type 1 Diabetic you’ll find some helpful info there. If you are searching for support please still feel free to e-mail me as well as joining our group.

Thanks so much Michele!
Thanks so much Michelle. My daughter was diagnosed last September at age 3 1/2 and somehow I remembered that Margaret (in Minnesota) had posted a Chris Rice song for you sometime over the summer….so I’ve been checking in here ever since. I’m especially grateful for your information and commitment to supporting parents and research without compromising by supporting ESCR…..tough resources to find!!
Thanks again and prayers always for our sweet children.
Michelle, I just came across this new book today and thought of you. It is called The Devil in the Milk. You can read more about it here http://thebovine.wordpress.com/2009/03/20/the-devil-in-the-milk-dr-thomas-cowan-on-how-a2-milk-is-the-answer-to-the-mystery-of-why-even-raw-milk-sometimes-does-not-seem-to-be-enough-of-an-improvement-over-store-bought/
I just thought it would interest you since the origin of the study pertains to children with diabetes.
Hello!! I just wanted to tell you what a lovely blog you have, then I read this post… well I just want to tell you a story about juvenile diabetes that has a very happy ending (at least so far!!) My younger brother was diagnosed at age 5, and my mom just threw herself into caring for him. I mean, we went to every specialist in San Francisco (where I grew up) We went to healing mass after healing mass. My mom counted and kept track of CPF’s in a book and weighed all his food, I mean, she was committed. He went to a summer camp for diabetic kids and we all went for the family camp sessions. At times I thought (as a kid) the whole thing was really annoying and I didn’t get how high the stakes really were. But now I do, and I see the payoffs of my parent’s diligent care of my brother. He is 32, he was a PE coach (now principal) amazing athlete, and strong and healthy as can be!! I think there was some concern with his kidney function a couple of years ago, but they seem to have resolved that, and he is doing great, and he will probably live a longer and healthier life than many who did not have Type 1 diabetes. Sooo… keep up the good work and may your children enjoy strength and good health, as well!! =)
