Thought Provoking Reading

I have been reading these two books lately and they have me completely enthralled.

Happy Are You Poor and Prayer Primer

Both are by Fr. Thomas Dubay

I started reading Happy Are You Poor a few years ago but put it down—I don’t know why, maybe I wasn’t ready for it but it certainly is speaking to me now. It’s pretty much piercing my heart to be exact. To quote Fr. Dubay, “The message is austere, but at the same time it bears tidings of great joy.

Yes indeed.

I plan to post more of my thoughts on both of these books over the next few weeks.
If you have read either of them (and I bet several of you have), I’d be happy to hear your thoughts.

Right now though I’m burning hamburgers on the stove cooking dinner.

I loved Happy Are You Poor when I read it years ago, though it was challenging. Maybe I should read it again.

Happy are You Poor changed a lot for me. It came at a time in my life where it enabled me to hear God’s call for conversion. Conversion from the attached life my family and I were leading. We had always considered ourselves “not” attached, but it helped us open our us as to just how much stuff we really had when we didn’t need it, and how that “stuff” was interfering with our spiritual life. I love this book so much I loaned it to a friend and am dying to get it back! A must read for everyone, I believe.

I love Fr. Dubay. I also love Happy Are You Poor … I still feel challenged to fully lead the life he prescribes, but we work on it, it’s a process, don’t you think? If you could see our threadbare couch, you’d know we aren’t too attached to stuff like furniture. :-) But, books? I have a ways to go there ….
