". . . when we say that the Church is a family, we mean it quite literally. The Church is not a reflection of the reality that is "family"—quite the opposite. The family is a reflection of the reality that is the Church." -Fr. Robert Johansen

Rainy Day Crafting

A new pin up board and lampshade:

The picture’s not so great (it’s quite dark today) but you get the idea.  It’s part of my new desk area.  My son Kyle made me a simple built in corner desk and I am making it “shabby chick” pretty by remaking things I already have on hand.  The board was an old black foam thing that wasn’t getting much use and wasn’t very pretty.  I covered it with Heather Bailey’s rose bouquet- blue print and hot pink ric-rac.  No sewing –just hot glue.

The lampshade was made with a quilt print from JAF (in my stash for at least a few years), beaded trim and lace.  I used the directions at Fat Orange Cat for the lampshade.  Spray adhesive holds the fabric in place and I hot glued the lace and trim on.

Easy and I feel like I accomplished something on this lazy rainy day.  I still have more to do before my desk area is finished.  I am going to decoupage the little wood box the lamp is sitting on and put silk roses inside the glass lamp base.  I’ll post pictures of the whole area when I’m done.  Kyle is still working on shelves so it’ll be next week until I have it all finished.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the board, but IMO, to hold its own, the lamp needs something colorful… how about hot-gluing those glass things that look like flattened marbles on the shade or the glass base? You could use pink and green ones. Sort of a polka-dot effect?
I dunno, just a thought. Or maybe some of that pink rickrack somewhere? I know, how about that… I’m such a nit picker, huh?
Seriously, though, I love that you were able to spiff up your desk area. Now I am looking at mine and feeling envious.
