Simple Woman’s Daybook for September 1st, 2008

Don’t forget to stop by Peggy’s for all the links entered in this week’s Simple Woman’s Daybook.

Outside my window. . . bright and somewhat cool with a just hint of humidity.  Looks promising!

I am thinking. . . that Gustav doesn’t seem to be as bad as was feared - thank God!

I am thankful for. . . a pro-life VP pick!

From the kitchen. . . pumpkin pie for breakfast –Yum!

I am creating. . . schedules, lesson plans and book lists.

I am going. . . with hubby to shop for a new stove.

I am wearing. . . jeans, brown tee top and leather sandals.  Hair is brushed, face is washed.

I am reading. . . Authenticity is my current read.  I wish I had read this book years ago, then again I don’t know that I would have been ready for it.

I am hoping. . . that we can actually find a store that has the stove we want in stock.

I am hearing. . . Kevin strumming on guitar and the rest of the children chattering.

Around the house. . . more lesson planning as we are getting ready for the new school year.

One of my favorite things. . . the promise of fall in the air.  There finally is one!

A few plans for the rest of the week. . . eye doctor, dentist, RCIA

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you. . .

Can a woman both govern and mother well?

There seems to be a good bit of speculation as to the wisdom of Sarah Palin being VP since she still has such young children.  I don’t know and I don’t think it really does much good to speculate.  Whether or not we would choose the same path is really irrelevant. Our situations aren’t the same and we aren’t all called to the same things.

But, lest we forget, we live in difficult times in a country that is steeped in a culture of death. For the moment all eyes are on this woman —a mother of five who is unequivocally pro-life.  That’s a very good thing!

How many queens of ages past have governed well while still mothering well?  Countless I would imagine.  And with Sarah Palin we’re not talking about a lifetime but really just a term or two (God willing!)

This woman has the potential to effect real change even if only through her public example and the awareness that her story will bring.  The real question we need to be asking here is how can we help?  What can we do to help Sarah Palin be both a good mother and a good VP?

We need to pray.  Pray for her, her family and our country.  I really mean that.  Let’s ask God to send this woman all the help she needs to fulfill this role.  If God has truly called her to it He will provide, but as her brothers and sisters in Christ we need to do what we can to support her.

Most especially let’s not forget to ask Mary, our very own Queen and Mother to intercede with us in this very important time in our nation’s history.

Stormy Weather

Please pray for those who are in the path of hurricane Gustav and the strengthening tropical storm Hanna.  While we hope it all comes to nothing I can imagine the anxiety so many there must have.

Ellen asked me in a previous post how the newlyweds were.  They’re fine.  Did I mention that they are moving to New Orleans in a the next week or so?  Yeah I’m a little nervous. . .

Keeping it simple

I tend to like things simple and uncluttered.  Unfortunately my life doesn’t always reflect that.  I try but when you are busy and have this many people sharing a house. . . well, it can be a challenge.  I think that’s one of the reasons I like my online space.  I can design it and clean it up and it stays that way. . .until I fuss with it again that is.

If you’re a long time reader of my blog you know that I have changed my blog design pretty frequently.  You also might notice that I haven’t done it in a while.  Don’t worry this isn’t a warning because I actually like the clean simple look here.  Oh I’m sure those lovely flowers will morph into something else as the seasons pass but the general layout will stay the same because I like it and it works.  The clean feeling of the white background feels very fresh to me.  But fresh in the summer could feel cold in the winter so we’ll see. . .

Anyway, in the interest of simplicity I did rather something “un-blogger” like today.  I deleted all my categories. . . and it feels great!  Categories were always such a bugaboo for me.  What category should I put a post in, how many should I use?  Is it too many?  Do they make sense to anyone but me?  Does it even matter and does anyone even care about them?  It all just seemed like this stupid thing hanging over me so I got this idea today to simply go category-less.   Well,  almost.  Wordpress doesn’t let you have zero categories, you have to have at least one.  So I have one and it’s title is “everything”.  I figure that covers pretty much, well, everything.

So what do you think?  Have I completely lost my marbles or was it a stroke of genius?  Humor me and pretend you care —let me know what you think.  I’m curious.

A blast from the past

Isn’t this cute! It’s me and my sisters circa 1970. I’m the little blond one.

Today was my mom’s birthday (Happy Birthday Mommy!) and my cousin sent this picture to my mom by e-mail.  None of us had ever seen it before and when I showed it to my kids today they didn’t know who it was.  Finally 12 yr. old Mary said, “Oh! Is that you and Aunt Mel and Aunt Missy?”  “Yes,” I said, “it is!”

“But. . .” she replied, “it’s in color?”

Ouch!  We had color back in the 70’s sweetheart!  Kids sure keep you humble don’t they?

Love this!

Have you seen this great vocations poster from the Raleigh Diocese?

Some of those pieces are from the same mass kit that we have!

Hat tip to Fr. Z
