I’ve been converted

“I want holy, I want lovely, I want grace. I want passion, I want poetry and coffee.”
Christine Dente —I Want Everything

.I have been a tea drinker for at least 30 years. Hot tea, iced tea but always “real” tea thank-you-very-much. I may be from Lancaster County but I’m sorry, Turkey Hill tea is not “real” tea in my mind (I apologize to all who are scandalized by that last sentence –it’s nearly akin to heresy I know). Though I DO like the Snapple green teas. They have a nice tea flavor (though they could use less sugar).

The thing is I just don’t thirst for tea like I used to. I try and drink it and yet I am left wanting . . . coffee. I want coffee. Bold, strong, smooth with a tsp. of sugar and a splash of half and half (I know, but have patience with me, I am a convert after all).

The problem is I’m not set up for coffee here. I have no coffee pot (I had one but it broke a while ago) and coffee bags are just . . . blech.

But fortunately we have a minute market a few blocks away that sells good coffee. Even more fortunate is a 15 yr. old who is willing to go and get it. Because that’s the kind of kids I am raising. Ones who will walk to Turkey Hill in the rain on a cool Monday morning because they know mom functions better with coffee what it means to sacrifice and give for others. Yep. Thanks Kev. :-)

Edited to add: Clearly, judging by the number of typos in this post, I needed MORE coffee! Thank you to my dear husband who is never hampered from pointing out my flaws.

Welcome to the “dark side.”

Tea is always a favorite but my coffee press and I are on a first name basis, especially in the morning. Since we are not in town, home made is the only option. Although not a trip outside, where more than PJ’s are requited, here kind children have been known to start the kettle and clean out the spent grounds for a second pot!

I knew I loved that boy.

Kevin, I would take you in a minute!

Coffee is the way to go for a serious jolt, the kind of serious jolt a mom of ten needs!

Oh no Michele! Say it isn’t so! You’ve stepped over to the dark side. :) I guess I’m just going to have to hold my own as one of the only adults in the world that don’t drink coffee but have a passion for all types of tea. Luckily for me, my dh husband can’t stand coffee either…and is quickly being converted to the loveliness of tea.

What a guy! :) They need to get you a Coffee Press (aka French Press or Cafetière) for Mother’s Day.

Some mornings I can’t help but say, “Ah coffee, the sweet elixir of life!”

Just a splash of half and half? People tease me with “Have some coffee with your cream and sugar”. I like my coffee light and sweet.

Oh, Michele, I’m sorry. Now there’s no going back. And, it gives you one more thing to renounce, a la Fr. Dubay. Books. Coffee. It’s a process, it’s a process …. :-)
