It’s almost over!
February that is. I’m not usually one to wish time away but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was glad to see February go. That ever so short month that feels ever so long. I can’t help but wonder if adding in an extra day for leap year was someone’s idea of a cruel joke.
Of course next month we will have to listen to all the outcry about St. Patrick’s Day. Let me just clue you in folks. March 17th is Monday of Holy Week which totally trumps St. Paddy’s Day –it’s only a minor feast after all (hey don’t blame the messenger I like St. Paddy too but this is the way it is). Many people are thus celebrating on a day previous. That’s fine, just don’t make it Sat. the 15th because that is the date the Solemnity of St. Joseph was moved to (which is normally March 19th but also falls in Holy Week). A Solemnity trumps a feast so St. Joe had to be moved.
I have heard some folks are celebrating St. Paddy’s day on Friday the 14th but I am wondering how big of a celebration there can be on a Friday in Lent? Unless of course there’s a dispensation. Is there? I haven’t checked though I probably should since St. Patrick IS the patron of our diocese.
FYI to all the complainers out there, I can say for certain that St. Patrick is not upset about any of this –neither should we be.
Peace!
