e-mails scams - a new approach ;-)
You’ve heard of those Nigerian e-mails scams right? I’m sure you’ve gotten at least one - I get them all the time. You know, the ones that tell you someone important died and they left millions of dollars and they need your help to get it out of the country and oh by the way they want to give you a big chunk (if not all) of it!
Yeah, right.
Well I watched a news piece on these scams a few months ago (Dateline or 20/20 or something - sorry can’t remember) and I was amazed at how many people fall for it. It’s sad from both ends. Those who get scammed and those who live their lives trying to scam people.
So the last time I got one of those e-mails I did something different - I wrote back. He already had my e-mail so I figured why not? And I knew from the news story that there was a real person at the other end of that e-mail who was hoping I would reply. So I did.
I started out by asking him if he thought I was an idiot (OK not the best start but it got better). I told him that these scams had been exposed on all the major news shows in the US so he wasn’t fooling anyone (OK apparently he IS still fooling some people but why encourage him?). Then I told him that scamming people was no way to live and that he should find a priest, go to confession and amend his life (yeah really I did)! I ended by telling him I would pray for him (I do).
Not surprisingly he didn’t reply. But you never know, maybe he thought twice next time. . .or maybe I am just naive. ![]()

Feb 27, 2007 - 06:02:20Well, you never know when you will affect someone. And it doesn’t matter if he listens to you or thinks twice next time (although we hope he does amend his life). God calls us to be faithful and admonish the sinner, not to be successful. The success is for the Lord to accomplish, not us, but He DOES want us to be faithful and plant the seed so that He can make a beautiful tree that bears fruit in eternity.
In Christ,
Kitty
