". . . when we say that the Church is a family, we mean it quite literally. The Church is not a reflection of the reality that is "family"—quite the opposite. The family is a reflection of the reality that is the Church." -Fr. Robert Johansen

Crazy, lazy days

birthdayrosesSounds like an oxymoron of a title doesn’t it?  But that’s what it feels like.  Lazy, laid back, but still rather crazy days.  It’s summer so we’re not homeschooling much but it’s the height of planner season so I’m filling orders almost every day –and drinking loads of fresh brewed iced tea (lemon, no sugar, thank you).  I am ever so grateful that the planners are selling well because my husband is currently out of work (laid off permanently) and oh my it’s such a blessing to have him here.  He helps me with orders, cooks (yes well), takes the kids to the park and has even become my personal fitness trainer (at my request) since the end of April.

We are having a perfect summer weather wise.  We haven’t even had to turn on the A/C in the main part of the house –it’s not even in the window yet (it’s an old house –no duct work so we have window A/C units).

My birthday was Friday.  It was a lovely day. 42 feels pretty much the same as 41.  Wait, scratch that.  Actually I do feel much fitter than I did at 41 though I haven’t lost much weight to speak of –trying to figure that out.   Still, it’s not very remarkable to have a birthday at this age is it?  My husband gave me a really beautiful card –it actually made me cry.  Of course my children all made me lovely cards too and they were all just as sweet as can be to me all day. Seriously. ;-)

I tried to convince my husband that a new sectional sofa I found at Costco (very reasonably priced and actually small enough to fit our space) was the perfect birthday present.  He didn’t agree –he wanted me to have something for me –something I would really enjoy.  I really thought I would enjoy the sofa given our current furniture is getting a little threadbare and doesn’t smell very pleasant.  He said we could get the furniture cleaned and that he wanted me to have a new sewing machine.  I hadn’t even thought about a new machine.  My inexpensive Kenmore has been doing it’s job for the last 10 years or so and my serger is fabulous as always so. . . but no, he wanted me to look anyway.

I looked and of course I did find something I wanted. A Brother sewing and embroidery combo machine. It’s a Project Runway limited edition.  OK whatever but it came with a cute rolling bag. :-)   It arrived Saturday and oh my goodness,  I didn’t realize what a pain my old machine was until I started using my new one! Yeah my husband is brilliant.  I haven’t actually done any embroidery yet but I certainly plan to.  OK yes I’m a little intimidated by it still.  But nothing like a new machine to inspire you huh? Let’s see. . . oh yes I have those quilt blocks guilting calling me so that should be first.  Of course I have hundreds of ideas for little girl clothes especially now with the embroidery.   I also have some special projects I’m working on that I’m not going to write about just yet.  Soon though, I promise.

What else?  Oh yes the FCL conference is in 2 weeks.  Wow, how did that happen?  I was supposed to have lost 30 lb. by now (not that I haven’t tried!) and finished several sewing projects for the conference.  OK I still have time –to sew that is, the 30 lb isn’t going to happen unfortunately.

Timothy and Carolyn (son and daughter in law) are coming to visit next Sunday.  They are flying in from New Orleans and staying the week. We are all looking forward to seeing them.

Oh my it’s nearly 8:00 already!  I’ll sign off now since my family should be home soon.  They went to a party and I stayed home because I haven’t been feeling well today –the last few days actually– with a stomach thing of some sort .

Hope your having as nice a summer as I am!

I realize this is an older post, but I’ve only just read it and wanted to say that I will be praying for your family during your husband’s time without a job. (Hopefully, by now, perhaps he has found a new one!)
Also…you are SOOOOOO beautiful that I can’t imagine you wanting to lose weight or change ANYTHING about yourself…
but I had SUCH trouble getting some little nagging pounds off after
sweet Benjamin…baby number 10…and I’ve posted a few easy ideas that REALLY worked for me on my Mom’s Good Health page (the physical health section) if you’d like to read them!

Please let us know if your dear husband has found a job…we will truly keep you in our rosaries if he has not!!!
