Reading
I’m back into reading Charlotte Mason these days. Twelve years of reading her work and I still gain from it. It’s swirling in my head as I put together the plans for Levels 5 and 6 of Mater Amabilis. I’d dearly love to have them finished and up by next month but experience tells me not to make any promises. . . since life often has a way of interfering with my plans.
I’m working on lesson plans too. Detailed plans for Level 3. They’ll be tested this year by two of my children and a few friend’s children as well. If they fare well they will be available in syllabus form next year. But like I said earlier - no promises.
But back to my reading. Besides CM’s own writings, a favorite book of mine about CM is Marion Wallace Ney’s little book ” Charlotte Mason: ‘a pioneer of sane education’. ”
It’s not the easiest book to get hold of. I ordered mine from a UK bookseller and picked it up at Kathryn’s when I visited there in 2003 (after she’d read it of course). I would love to see it readily available as I think it’s a very good explanation of Charlotte Mason’s philosophy and even its practical application. It’s not through by any means but it’s quite rich.
I’ll share some quotes here over the next few weeks as I find some time to type them in.
