FROM CHAPTER 47 OF THE BOOK OF BLESSINGS
1509. The use of the Advent Wreath is a traditional practice which has found its place in the Church as well as in the home. The blessing of an Advent Wreath takes place on the First Sunday of Advent or on the evening before the First Sunday of Advent. The blessing may be celebrated during Mass, a celebration of the Word of God, or Evening Prayer.
1510. Customarily the Advent...

Little Miss M is attending a spa slumber party this evening and the invitation said to bring her slippers. Since she didn’t have any that fit I whipped these up for her this afternoon.
They are of the same fabric as Tiny Miss M’s recent slippers (flannel inside and out with soft leather soles), but a different pattern. These are from Mary Engelbreit’s Home Companion Sole-ful Slippers...

I fixed a few mistakes on the liturgical calendar wheel so you may want to go back and download it again.
I also made an alternative one that has all the feast days and memorials marked (except for optional ones).
I used the online Catholic calendar as my guide so I cannot guarantee its accuracy —though in my experience that calendar is usually quite accurate.
I’ve only uploaded one large size so...

For Today . . .
Outside my window. . . it’s cold! There’s still snow on the ground from several days ago. Not enough to play in, just enough to be annoying. At 26 degrees this morning it feels more like February than November.
I am thinking. . . about how fortunate and blessed we are. Life isn’t easy but it surely is sweet.
I am thankful for. . . an uneventful weekend. No sick children,...

Advent begins next Sunday (yes, already —I know) and the purl bee is offering this lovely Advent calendar tutorial.
Theirs is embroidered but you really could do this several different ways. It’s a cute idea — very straightforward and highly adaptable to whatever other ideas you can come up with.
Check it out at:...

As part of my ongoing effort to educate my friends and family about type 1 diabetes I am offering yet another installment.
How exactly do you live with this disease?
For my children life means a diet that is monitored and 4 shots of insulin a day plus 8 – 10 finger sticks for blood glucose checks.
By a monitored diet I mean that they cannot simply eat whatever they want, whenever they want. Unless that is,...

For Today…
Outside my window. . . roses! We had two beautiful pink roses this morning. We cut them right away because it’s so cold. Roses always make me think of Our Lady —especially these roses which are in fact, named for her.
I am thinking. . . about the rather big to do list I have to get through today. It’s Monday again –is it just me or does Monday seem to come around too...
