A new creation
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission:”Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.”

Baptism Day!
Maria was baptized today at the 11:00 mass. It was positively beautiful and we are all still enjoying the smell of chrism wafting about her. More details and pictures tomorrow.
Blog reading with lunch.
That’s what I am doing at the moment - having my lunch while reading a few blogs. But since I really want to make it a habit to post here more often, I’ll just post a quick note today.
Tomorrow is Maria’s baptism. Pray for her please and all of us. I am NOT is crazy mode yet and I am hoping this peace I feel will remain and I will simply enjoy the day for the great celebration it is! It helps that we aren’t having the party here, but rather at the Church. ![]()
But it’s Saturday which is cleaning day anyway so I’m off to get back to work!
Ordinary Time
Well, here we are back in Ordinary Time. Christmas is officially over as of today. . . or was it yesterday? I’m not exactly sure but today is definitely Ordinary Time. And I’m ready for it, ready for life to be ordinary again. Not that we don’t have feasts and celebrations during this time, Maria’s baptism is this coming Sunday in fact, but this is the season that makes up the bulk of the liturgical year. It’s where we just go about the business of living our lives as Christians and witnessing to the world. No small task indeed, but what should simply be part and parcel of our regular and well, ordinary lives.
In RCIA we’re in the Catechumenate stage. Delving deeply into the truths of the Faith and working towards Lent, towards the Purification and Enlightenment (or P & E as we affectionately call it
)
When you think about it that’s really what we should all be doing. It makes sense that we spend this time learning more about our faith as we journey towards Lent. It’s tempting after the feasting of Christmas to want to pull back a bit and just “be” but actually that’s what the feasts are for, to rejoice and celebrate and ideally. . . relax (though often Christmas is anything but relaxing). It’s in the everyday that we are truly put to the test and where we should find ourselves deep in the mysteries of this great and beautiful Faith.
This morning, as we step into Ordinary Time I’m asking God’s blessing. Most of all I’m asking that my life as a Christian be nothing short of extraOrdinary.
