Cooper’s Hawk

We got some great shots of this Cooper’s Hawk the other day. It had just killed another bird and was feasting on it while perched on the phone wires outside our home.

You can see a little bit of the “kill” at the bottom of the picture but I’ll spare you the really graphic shots my 16 yr. old son took. :-)

Fun Finds

I stopped by the dollar store this morning after going to the gym. Today is the gift exchange for my dd’s Little Flowers group so in my typical last minute fashion I stopped to pick up gifts. ;-) BUT I also found some nice educational stuff for my younger children. I got large wooden lacing beads for my 16 month old who is at this very moment happily placing them in a Christmas tin and then having even more fun dumping them all over the floor. OK so he’s not lacing them but hey he’s having fun [correction, he is now pitching them across the room - wow, I forgot a 16 month old could throw so hard! ]. I also got letters for the fridge but not the plastic kind, these are wood with magnetic backing. My 6 yo dd and 3 yo ds are having fun with those.

AND I picked up 4 different Pooh learning game cards [colors and shapes, first words, number match & go together game]. They’re SO cute. We love Pooh. :-) The cards all came in these nifty little trays so I cut off the name of the game and pasted it on to the end of the tray for easy stacking and identifying. Great finds. Fun, educational and inexpensive!

And you know what was really cool? When I walked outside of the store into a beautiful near 50 degrees day, it smelled like candy! Strawberry Twizzlers to be exact. The Twizzler factory is a few miles away and given that Lancaster County can often have a . . . well, “farm” smell, candy is a welcome change.

My Catholic Homepage

Someone sent me a link to this site the other day. I loved it and made it my new homepage.

myCatholic.com is a customizable Catholic homepage that allows users to choose their own content, layout, and preferences. It offers daily Mass readings, reflections, news, commentary, custom RSS/Atom feeds, a Catechism study, tools, and more. It even lets you customize what blogs you want to see. Now that’s a beautiful thing!

New Year Resolutions

Inspired by the Bookworm’s recent post of her New Year resolutions, I have borrowed her format and posted my own.

Faith:
Be consistent in saying morning and evening prayer (adapted from the Divine Office) and attend mass at least one other time during the week.

Family:
Have a monthly one on one “date” with each of my children.
Tell my husband every day how much I love and appreciate him.

Fitness:
Keep doing what I am already doing — eating well (whole foods and little to no white sugar or flour)and exercising regularly.

Formation:
Faith formation - Study a section of the Catechism weekly.
Personal formation - Improve my writing skills, in part by posting here regularly.

Fun:
Play my guitar for at least a half hour everyday.
