The calendar begins the at the very top with the 1st Sunday of Advent (Nov. 29th this year). Sundays of the year form the outer circle, and each spoke of the wheel represents a week, although the software I use to create it starts the week on a Monday so the calendar jumps to the inside circle for Monday and moves up from there. The seasons are defined by colors as are solemnities, feasts and memorials of the saints.
The calendar is based upon the General Roman Calendar, promulgated by Pope Paul VI on February 14, 1969, subsequently amended by Pope John Paul II, and the Particular Calendar for the Dioceses of the United States of America, approved by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.
