Meredith is currently working on a book for Catholic Home Educators based on her Mondays With Mary activities she began with her children a few years ago.
Her soon to be published book will be a boon to all who have wanted to incorporate more about the Blessed Mother into their children’s days. It will include special readings, Teatime activities and crafts, plus suggestions for celebrating Our Blessed Mother in her feasts throughout the Church Year. Here is an excerpt:
When we first began our Mondays With Mary, I was elated to find such a joyous and engaged response from my children about our new Monday afternoon “Mary” time. Now, this was not their first exposure to Marian devotions, but the method or the approach that I had previously attempted (during school time) was met with not only boredom, but with discouragement on my part. Mary wasn’t someone to “learn” about, she was someone to yearn for. She wasn’t a project to be finished and then put away, she was a cherished gift from God and a refuge for us to return to again and again. She is Our Heavenly Mother.
We have always said family rosary in the evening together, we’ve prayed Litanies, Novenas, and had Mary Crownings. We have marveled at the birth of Our Lord and at the Fiat of His Mother, but we needed more. I needed more. What better way for a home educating mother of four beautiful children to instill our rich faith and most especially a faithful devotion to Our Blessed Mother than with a special and focused devotion time. What better way to reach Jesus than through His Ever-Virgin and Faithful Mother? This was it! And so Mondays With Mary was born . . .
Mondays with Mary represents a glimpse into the life and heart of Our Blessed Virgin Mary through the eyes of our children. We are the window to her world; we just need to open it for them.
